Winter

Schwartz Family House | Hartford, WI

With a chill in the air, enjoy an evening back in time at the Schwartz Family House. Walk through the rooms of the restored home during “Sip & Stroll” events. 

The Schwartz House was built in 1915 by the Joseph Schwartz, owner of the Schwartz brewery. In 2016 the Hartford Historic Preservation Foundation purchased and restored the building to former glory. Today the site serves as an intimate gathering space and event venue.

Wisconsin Automotive Museum | Hartford, WI

Ladies and gentlemen… start your engines and drive to the Wisconsin Automotive Museum. Stroll through exhibits containing decades of masterly built automotives. It’s the perfect indoor activity for a chilly day.

With more than 120 automobiles on display, this Washington County historic site is the largest auto museum in Wisconsin! The museum was founded in 1986, driven to preserve the story of Hartford’s innovative Kissel Kar Company. Entry is free for children under 5 and tickets can be purchased at the door. 

Spring

Richfield Historical Park | Richfield, WI

Idyllic hiking meets maple sugaring at the Richfield Historical Park. This property is one-of-a-kind, with 33 acres boasting a gristmill, pioneer homestead, and just over 2 miles of walking trails. Don’t miss the chance to visit the on-site sugar shack each spring!

Lizard Mound State Park | West Bend, WI

Lizard Mound Park is one of Wisconsin’s most expansive – and best preservedeffigy mound groups. Spring weather offers the best time to explore as you can get a clear view of the mounds. While hiking, make sure to:

The Tower Heritage Center actively preserves four nineteenth-century buildings in Washington County. The organization’s programs and events continue stories, making them relevant for all generations. Fall

Visit the Holy Hill Basilica in Washington County, Wisconsin with The Tower Heritage Center

Holy Hill Basilica | Hubertus, WI

Seeking the perfect picture spot to soak up the fall color? Put on your walking shoes and your favorite cozy sweater and head on up this national shrine with a view extending over 30 miles. 

Built in 1931, Holy Hill is the tallest point in Washington County Wisconsin. Visitors can climb the scenic tower, view the historic stations, and grab a slice of pie in the cafe!

Dheinsville Historic Park | Germantown, WI

Are you really experiencing a Wisconsin autumn if you don’t attend an Oktoberfest?? This Washington County historic site is the oldest crossroads settlement established in 1842, engaging all ages with its historic half-timber buildings and grass space. 

Dheinsville hosts their annual German festival in Germantown, WI. Fit with polka music, traditional foods, family festivities, and of course BEER– this is an event you don’t want to miss.

Saxonia House | Fredonia, WI

Known for its rare German half-timbered architecture, Saxonia House is a historic marvel. Come to explore the beer cave, the preservation, and all the stories within its walls.

The home was built in 1855 by Ernst Klessig. Today it’s being restored to its former glory as a self-supporting educational and entertaining destination.
